Various Artists - SoulShaker vol. 3 (Record Kicks RKX017)
La créme de la créme of modern grooves says the liner notes. Is it really? You bet your sweet behind it is says Richard Karström. Read on.
Party over here!
Putting together tracks from labels like Tru Thoughts, Ubiquity, Hammondbeat, Acid Jazz and Daptone, the gang at Italian record label Record Kicks have gone and done it again. A smashing compilation of contemporary deep funk, soul and rare groove.
Features the stunning "Pushin' On" by Brighton's own Quantic Soul Orchestra, featuring Alice Russell. The inclusion of that track is a clear indication that you should get this record. All tunes on here pack a pretty mean punch, and if you like dancefloor grooves with hard hitting drums, luscious Hammond and soulful vocals you've come to the right place. Personal fave at the moment is "Tired Feet" by Smoove which puts a silly smile on my face, and given the fact just how stern and grumpy I am that's no mean feat. Oh, and Apollo Negri of the Link Quartet is a Hammond wizard but I'm sure you already knew that.
